Rasheed Zakaria is a consultant neurosurgeon at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and translational researcher at the Institute of System, Molecular and Integrative Biology, University of Liverpool. He read neurosciences at Cambridge University followed by clinical medicine at Oxford University. He completed specialist training on Merseyside before a subspecialist fellowship in oncology, spine oncology and skull base surgery at MDAnderson Cancer Centre, Houston. His PhD sponsored by the Medical Research Council focused on brain metastasis biology and invasiveness and led to the award of the BNOS Young Investigator Award in 2018. He is a member of the NCRI brain metastasis and meningioma subcommittee and is chief investigator of the Britemet study, funded by CRUK and the RCSEng, investigating the role of advanced MRI in predicting the response to immunotherapy. He is passionate about increasing the treatment options and trial opportunities for patients with brain metastases.
