Dr. Mihaela Lorger is an Associate Professor at the University of Leeds, UK. She received her PhD in biology from the Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Zurich, Switzerland and at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California.
Dr. Lorger has provided an insight into the initial steps of brain colonization by metastatic cancer cells. She and her team developed a melanoma brain metastases model in which the therapeutic efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade can be recapitulated. The team is studying cellular and molecular mechanisms of immunotherapy and developing hematopoietic stem cell gene therapy for brain metastases, following on from a preclinical proof-of-principle for this approach.
