Gerben R. Borst

Honorary Consultant and Senior Lecturer

Honorary Consultant at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester

Dr Gerben Borst obtained his MD at the University of Antwerp in Belgium, and his PhD at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). Gerben’s speciality training at the NKI has taken him to Hokkaido University in Japan (2007, UICC), the Institute of Cancer Research in London (2011, EACR/EMBO) and to Toronto at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (2015, KWF fellow). He also did the Ladislau and Melita Steiner Radiosurgery Fellowship at UCSF.

Gerben left the NKI in July 2020 and moved to Manchester to set up translational research in glioblastoma treatment. His goal is to contribute to the paradigm shift that is needed to improve the prognosis of glioblastoma patients. His group recently opened POBIG, the first preoperative single-fraction radiotherapy safety study in glioblastoma patients. This study includes novel translational aspects utilising advanced imaging tools and liquid biopsies to develop treatment individualisation.
